There is not an adventure that State Representative Alfonso “Poncho” Nevarez doesn’t like. From riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle to driving his 1965 Ford Mustang to stepping into the boxing ring. Yes, that’s right: stepping into the boxing ring to fight an opponent for the purpose of raising funds for Latino charitable causes in South Texas.
State Representative Poncho Nevarez is headlining the RingSide SA 2013 fundraiser on Friday, November 1, 2013, at 6 P.M. at the Joe Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas to raise money for the South Texas Hispanic Fund, a philanthropic organization dedicated to building and strengthening the Latino community’s participation in philanthropy.
RingSide SA 2013 is a unique black tie charitable event whose purpose is to raise funds for the South Texas Hispanic Fund inviting San Antonio and South Texas’ business community to an evening of cocktails, fine dining, dancing, live auctions, and the main event-RingSide SA 2013 featuring live boxing matches between celebrity boxers.
Joining State Representative Poncho Nevarez as pugilists are fellow State Representatives Rafael Anchia and Phillip Cortez as well as San Antonio celebrities Jim Greenwood of Valero, former State District Judge Pat Boone, the beautiful Elizabeth A. Falk, the lovely Annelisa G. Longoria, Don Longtain of Zachary Global Services, Bernie Melchor of USAA, Jim Monnig of the Law Office of Jim Monnig, the beautiful Linda S. Davila of Fred Loya Insurance, the lovely Rossana Lopez of Baptist Healthcare System, Daniel Quiroz of Toned Fitness, and Ronny Tejeda of Ancira Ford.
State Representative Poncho Nevarez will battle Jim Greenwood of Valero in the main event of RingSide SA 2013. Nevarez has been busy training for his upcoming boxing debut at a local fitness club. Nevarez is trained by boxing trainer Roberto Estrada of Eagle Pass.
“It is important to participate in philanthropic events because it is a moral obligation to give back to the community for the many blessings it has bestowed upon us, even if it means getting into the ring and taking a few hits,” said Nevarez.
