Del Rio CBP Officers Seize Cocaine Stashed in Car
DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Del Rio arrested a Ciudad Acuña woman, Friday, after finding more than $350,000 worth of cocaine in the car she was driving.
“This seizure exemplifies our officers’ determination to keep illicit drugs from entering our country,” said Michael Perez, CBP Port Director, Del Rio. “I am proud of the work they do every day.”
CBP officers inspected a 2014 Dodge Attitude, bearing a Mexican registration, Friday afternoon when it arrived at the Del Rio Port of Entry from Mexico. During inspection, a CBP officer noticed anomalies in trunk area of the vehicle. Scanning with a non-intrusive imaging system, and a positive alert by a CBP drug detection canine, led officers to the discovery of four packages of cocaine, weighing a total of 11.04 pounds, worth an estimated $353,408.
The driver, a 45-year-old Ciudad Acuña, Mexico woman, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for federal prosecution.
