Eagle Pass Eagles battle Edinburg North Cougars in Bi-District Championship on Saturday, November 16th

Now that the regular season is over and the playoff season starts this week, the Eagle Pass High School Eagles under the leadership of Head Coach Tom Gonzalez are battling the Edinburg North High School Cougars on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 6 P.M. at Coyote Stadium in Alice, Texas in the UIL Region IV-5A, Division II, Bi-District Championship.
The Eagle Pass Eagles enter their clash with the Edinburg North Cougars with a record of 4-5 while the Cougars are 9-1. The Eagles are coming into the Bi-District Championship with an impressive 28-7 win over cross-town rival, C.C. Winn Mavericks, in the fictional City Football Championship. The Edinburg North Cougars are coming into Saturday’s game against the Eagles with a win over the La Joya Coyotes, 41-7, and have a solid defense which limited opposing teams to only 131.5 offensive yards per game. The Edinburg North Cougars play in District 30-5A and are led by Head Coach Roy Garza.
Eagle Pass Eagles Head Coach Tom Gonzalez stated the Edinburg North Cougars are a very good defensive team and their offense is led by quarterback Alex Guerrero. The Eagles and Cougars have previously played each other before in the playoffs and know each other very well. Coach Gonzalez stated the Eagles have been practicing hard and will be ready for the Cougars on Saturday, November 16th.
The Eagles offense will be led by quarterback Ty Chisum and running backs Mark Venegas and DeShawn Franklin, wide receivers R.J. Ruiz, Alex Martinez, Chris Perez, and Olexis Gutierrez, and the offensive line of Alexander Mason, Leonardo Lopez, Tito Sanchez, Iram Gaytan, and Juan Gonzalez. On defense, the Eagles will be led by middle linebacker Armando “Mando” Lopez and linebackers Rudy Valdez and Chris Flores, defensive linemen Jesus Fernandez, Rolando Fernandez, and Alex Hinojosa, and the secondary of Kevin Chisum, R.J. Ruiz, Jesse Mata, and DeShawn Franklin. Eagles kicking specialist Jerry Gonzalez is enjoying a good year.
All loyal Eagles fans and the public are encouraged to travel to Alice, Texas on Saturday, November 16th, to cheer and support the Eagle Pass Eagles on to victory. Go Eagles!
