The Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners are having a Special Meeting on Monday, November 18, 2013, at 12 Noon at the Community Room of the El Centenario High-Rise Building, located at 2095 East Main Street, in Eagle Pass, Texas regarding discussion and possible action on the Executive Director’s employment contract.
The Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners approved and hired Eagle Pass City Secretary, Maria D. Velasquez, as its new Executive Director at a Special Meeting held on November 7, 2013.
The Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet with its General Counsel, Langley & Banack of San Antonio, Texas, to discuss the terms and compensation of employment of City Secretary Maria D. Velasquez as its new Executive Director.
At the November 7th Board meeting, Chairperson Ana B. Gonzalez proposed a two-year contract of employment. Board of Commissioner Ricardo E. Calderon made an amendment to Vice-Chairperson, Jose Gonzalez, motion to hire Maria D. Velasquez as Executive Director and Commissioner Pete Venegas’ second of said motion that the Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners hire a different law firm than Langley & Banack to negotiate the terms of employment with City Secretary Maria D. Velasquez to avoid any potential conflicts of interest issues and possible third-party claims because Langley & Banack currently serves as City Attorney and Maria D. Velasquez serves as City Secretary. The Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners declined Commissioner Calderon’s amendment and stated that they were satisfied that there is no potential conflict of interest issues.
