Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board to interview Executive Director applicants

The Housing Authority of the City of Eagle Pass, Texas Board of Commissioners are interviewing applicants for the vacant Executive Director position on Monday, November 4th, and Tuesday, November 5th, 2013, at 5:00 P.M. at a Special Board Meeting to be held at the El Centenario High-Rise Building Community Room, located at 2095 East Main Street, in Eagle Pass, Texas, according to the public notices posted on the local housing authority’s bulletin board.
A total of 14 persons applied for the top position at the Eagle Pass Housing Authority after the Board of Commissioners published the notice of job opening in local and out-of-town newspapers and publications. Among the 14 applicants include Eagle Pass City Secretary Maria D. Velasquez, Arturo Delgado, Oscar Moreno Vasquez, Jesus Garcia, Eddie Burnett, Patrick B. Howard, Mark Cary Wesley, Ofelia Calles-Riojas, Cesar Villa, Abelardo Reyes, Jr., Jesus Orlando Botello, Raymundo E. Herrera, Roy Rogers, and Eduardo Aguinaga.
On August 22nd, the Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners terminated for cause former Executive Director Carla Mancha-Juarez in a controversial split 4-1 vote with Chairperson Ana B. Gonzalez, Vice-Chairperson Jose Gonzalez, Pete Venegas, and Delfina Garza Morales voting in favor of termination while Commissioner Ricardo E. Calderon voted against.
The Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners approved long time housing authority employee Eliza Cano as the Interim Executive Director on August 26th with four votes in favor and one abstention. Cano has been working as the Interim Executive Director of the local housing authority since her appointment on August 26th by the Board of Commissioners.
After the two days of interviewing applicants, it is anticipated that the Eagle Pass Housing Authority Board of Commissioners may appoint and hire a new Executive Director sometime during the month of November.
