With 14 Maverick County political positions available in the March and November 2014 Elections, Maverick County businesswoman, Rosy Cantu, threw her hat in the ring by registering as a candidate for Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 2 with the Democratic Party on Friday, November 22, 2013, at her residence on Chuck Wagon Street in the heart of Precinct 2 territory in Loma Lina Subdivision in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Accompanied by her husband, children, family, friends, and supporters, Rosy Cantu announced that she is seeking the Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 2 position to represent the best interests of Precinct 2 and Maverick County residents. Cantu previously ran for the same position in 2010 against former County Commissioner Rudy Heredia and narrowly lost a very close election to Heredia, who has since been indicted of federal criminal charges and plead guilty to one count of wrongdoing and is awaiting to be sentenced by a federal district judge.
Cantu is owner and operator of Cantu’s Bail Bonds in Eagle Pass and is familiar with the needs of the community and Precinct 2 residents.
Currently, Asalia Casares is serving as County Commissioner of Precinct 2 after being appointed by Maverick County Judge David Saucedo and approved by Commissioners Court. Asalia Casares also plans to seek election to a full-term as County Commissioner of Precinct 2 under the Democratic Party in the March 4th primary election.
The Democratic Party primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, with early voting commencing on February 18th and continuing until February 28th.
