2014 Candidate Registration Deadline is Monday, December 9th

The deadline for Maverick County citizens interested in registering as a candidate for one of the 14 available political offices in the March and November 2014 elections is Monday, December 9, 2013, at 6 P.M. Candidates must register with their party’s County Chairperson for county-wide elections and with their state party headquarters for statewide elections.
The 14 Maverick County political offices available in 2014 include County Judge, County Commissioner Precinct 1, County Commissioner Precinct 2, County Commissioner Precinct 4, County Clerk, District Clerk, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, Justice of the Peace Precinct 3-1, Justice of the Peace Precinct 4, 293rd Judicial District Judge, 365th Judicial District Judge, State Representative District 74, and U.S. House of Representative District 23-Texas.
Democrats may register with Maverick County Democratic Party Chairperson Victor E. Perry at his law offices located at 350 N. Monroe Street in Eagle Pass, Texas and may contact him by telephone at (830) 757-1200 while Republicans may register with Republican Party Chairperson Jose Reyna and may contact Reyna at (830) 776-2333.
For Maverick County Judge, incumbent Democrat County Judge David Saucedo has registered for re-election and may or may not draw opponents in the March 2014 Democrat Party election. There are reports that one or two persons are mulling the idea of running against County Judge David Saucedo. There is no word if a Republican candidate will register in 2014.
In the Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 1 race, currently-appointed Commissioner Gerardo “Jerry” Morales has registered to run for a full-four year term as well as Eagle Pass businessman Mark De Los Santos, U.S. veteran Leo Buentello is reportedly interested in running, and one or two more candidates may register to run. No word from the Republican Party.
For Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 2, currently-appointed Commissioner Asalia Casares has registered to run for a full-four year term as well as Eagle Pass businesswoman Rosy Cantu, former Interim Commissioner Daniela Renee Flores-Aleman, current Maverick County Water Control & Improvement District No. 1 Board of Director Yolanda Lopez Mauricio, and one or two more candidates are reportedly interested in running. No word from the Republican Party.
In the Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 4 race, currently-appointed Commissioner Roberto Ruiz has registered to seek election to a full-four year term as well as former Eagle Pass Fire Chief Guadalupe “Lupe” Cardona, local school teacher Rossy Leos, local political activist Luis Alfonso Ruiz, and one or two more persons are considering running. No word from the Republican Party.
For Maverick County Clerk, incumbent Sara Montemayor registered for re-election and there are no reports of anyone wanting to challenge her. No word from the Republican Party.
In the Maverick County District Clerk race, incumbent Irene Rodriguez is expected to run for re-election as well as County Judge Administrative Assistant Leopoldo “Polo” Vielma has already registered. There are no other reports of anyone else interested in running. No word from the Republican Party.
For the Justice of of the Peace Precinct 1 position, incumbent Judge Kina Mancha has registered for re-election as well as former Eagle Pass Police Officer Charlie Ruiz and one or two more individuals have expressed some interest in running. No word from the Republican Party.
In the Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 race, currently-appointed Judge Dora Madera has registered for a full-four year term while one or two persons are thinking about running. No word from the Republican Party.
For Justice of the Peace Precinct 3-1 position, incumbent Judge Cesar Iracheta has decided to retire and local retire law enforcement officer David J. Castaneda has registered to run for election to replace Iracheta as well as former Maverick County Sheriff Deputy Gilbert Salas. There are no other reports of any other persons interested in running. No word from the Republican Party.
In the Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 race, incumbent Judge Tere Melendrez has registered for re-election to another four year term and there are one or two persons considering whether to challenge Melendrez. No word from the Republican Party.
For the 293rd Judicial District Court Judgeship, incumbent District Judge Cynthia Muniz has registered for re-election to another four year term and there are no reports of anyone else interested in challenging Judge Muniz. No word from the Republican Party.
In the 365th Judicial District Court Judgeship, incumbent District Judge Amado J. Abascal, III, has registered for re-election to another four year term and there are no reports of anyone interested in running against Judge Abascal. No word from the Republican Party.
For State Representative District 74, incumbent Poncho Nevarez has registered for re-election to another two year term and there are no reports of anyone considering a challenge against Nevarez. No word from the Republican Party.
In the U.S. House of Representatives District 23-Texas, incumbent Congressman Pete P. Gallego has registered for re-election to another two year term on the Democratic Party while there are three or four running on the Republican Party seeking to challenge Gallego in November.
Many Maverick County citizens have expressed their concerns regarding the corruption, bribery, kick-back, and fraud investigation by the FBI and the Texas Rangers in Maverick County and the need to clean-up the corruption in the community, but only the truly brave and courageous citizens have either registered or will register to run for one of the 14 political offices while the majority complains but does nothing about it. Monday, December 9th, at 6 P.M. is the deadline for Maverick County citizens to register for any of the 14 political offices available in the 2014 elections.
