City of Eagle Pass Municipal Court to Conduct Amnesty Program
(Press Release) – The City of Eagle Pass Municipal Court will be conducting an Amnesty Program starting January 13, 2014 in an effort to encourage citizens with outstanding warrants to take care of their cases and avoid being arrested and paying additional fines and fees.
The Amnesty Program period will last until January 24, 2014. Incentives will be given to individuals who come in voluntarily and take care of their fines. At the end of the Amnesty period a multi-agency warrant roundup will be conducted on an unannounced date.
Those persons with outstanding warrants should contact the Municipal Court at (830) 421-5107 and inquire about payment options.
During the Amnesty Program period the Municipal Court Judge will offer the following options to the defendants with outstanding arrest warrants.
If the defendant has a failure to appear/ violation of promise to appear and pays the full amount of the original violation(s):
1) The Judge will dismiss the failure to appear/ violation of promise to appear charge(s). The defendant will not have to pay the fine of $99/ $152 depending on the violation. It is also important to mention if the FTA/VPTA is dismissed, it will not be reported to the state.
2) The Judge will also recall the warrant , which means that the person will not be arrested and will not have to pay the $50 warrant fee for the FTA/VTPA.
