Eagle Pass Sportswriter Rey Sifuentes, Jr. passes away at age 39

Former Eagle Passan and noted sportswriter, Rey Sifuentes, Jr., age 39, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, in Mount Pleasant, Texas at his home. Eagle Passans were deeply saddened by the news of Rey Sifuentes, Jr.’s passing away at his home in North Texas. It is unknown as to the cause of death of Sifuentes as of press time.
Rey Sifuentes, Jr. loved sports and writing about it during his distinguished but short career as a Texas sportswriter. Sifuentes wrote for many newspapers and his own website, including newspapers in Kingsville, Corpus Christi, Eagle Pass, Mount Pleasant, and other Texas cities. Sifuentes was known for his succinct but detailed news stories and interviews in sports writing. He loved to write about his home town Eagle Pass High School Eagles and C.C. Winn High School Mavericks despite living several hours away from Eagle Pass. He always found the time to write about the Eagles and Mavericks.
Sifuentes was born January 30, 1974 in Sylvis, Illinois. Left to cherish his memory are his parents Reynaldo and Margarita Sifuentes; two brothers: George and Ruben Sifuentes; Grandmother Agustina Cisneros. Visitation for Reynaldo will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. – 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Yeager-Barrera Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and interment will follow at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Cemetery.
