City Council approves real estate and economic development projects

The City of Eagle Pass City Council approved two real estate development projects at their January 21, 2014, Special Meeting and previously approved a Municipal Airport Study at their September 17, 2013 Special Meeting, boosting economic development in the community.
The City of Eagle Pass Planning Department under the direction of Bryan Shea continues to work with local and out-of-town real estate and business developers interested in investing and building economic development projects in the community.
Planning Department Director Bryan Shea recently announced to the Eagle Pass City Council at their January 21st meeting that an extension was requested by Cayetano Interest LLC., on the approval of a preliminary plat of the Coronado Estates Subdivision in the Eidson Road, which was initially approved on July 11, 2013 by the Eagle Pass Planning and Zoning Commission during their regular meeting. The proposed Coronado Estates subdivision consists of a 21.28 acres development that will have over 78 single family residential lots and two commercial lots. The property and investments are owned by Cayetano Interest LLC., out of Austin, Texas.
Cayetano Interest LLC. requested an additional 12 months to allow completion of the subdivision and to submit its final plat. The Eagle Pass City Council approved the extension unanimously.
Also approved by the City Council on January 21st was a second extension of the Rio Grande Estates Subdivision, which is an 8.09 acres tract with 25 single family residential lots. Rio Grande Estates Subdivision is an investment by Margon Developers of USA Corporation, 2847 El Indio Highway,Suite 6, Eagle Pass. This development is on the west side of Veterans Boulevard. Rio Grande Estates Subdivision requested a 12 month extension on the preliminary plat approval period. The preliminary plat approval for the Rio Grande Estates Subdivision was granted on November 1st 2012 by the Eagle Pass Planning and Zoning Commission. This extension request was also approved by the Eagle Pass City Council.
Mayor Ramsey English Cantu stated that the City of Eagle Pass welcomes real estate and economic development projects that will provide jobs and improve the quality of life of Eagle Passans. Mayor Cantu noted that the City Council is working with local organizations to promote economic development projects.
The City Council approved at their December 3, 2013, meeting a Tax Abatement Ordinance designed to establish guidelines and criteria for granting tax abatements in reinvestment zones within the city limits of Eagle Pass.
The Tax Abatement Ordinance will allow the City of Eagle Pass to compete with other cities in attracting new real estate and industrial investments to Eagle Pass. Mayor Ramsey English Cantu pointed out that existing local businesses and investors will also be eligible for tax abatements within certain designated reinvestment zones to be named in the future by the City Council.
The Eagle Pass City Council also approved a municipal airport feasibility study on September 17, 2013, to study the needs and demands of local residents and businesses requiring the services of an airport. A proposed municipal airport on the Winn Family airstrip near U.S. Highway 277 South is being considered as a potential site for a municipal airport to serve local citizens and oil and gas companies doing business in the Eagle Ford Shale and Mexico.
The Eagle Pass City Council will continue to seek real estate and economic development projects that will create jobs and improve the quality of life of Eagle Passans.
