Fleeing Vehicle from Law Enforcement Crashes at McCoy’s

A vehicle fleeing from law enforcement authorities crashed into the fence at McCoy’s near the intersection of Highways 57 and 277 South on East Main Street in Eagle Pass, Texas, on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, during the early morning hours.
According to the investigation, the vehicle’s driver was attempting to flee from law enforcement officers from as far as Uvalde, Texas when it entered the City of Eagle Pass and crashed into the McCoy’s fence, causing injuries to the driver, Ernest Hernandez, Jr..
Hernandez was treated at the scene of the accident by Eagle Pass Fire Department EMS Paramedics but miraculously walked away from the accident without any serious personal injuries to himself refusing further treatment at a local hospital. Hernandez was taken into custody and transported to the Tom Bowles Law Enforcement and Detention Center in Eagle Pass.
The United States Border Patrol from Uvalde, Texas contacted the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department for assistance with a pursuit in progress on Highway 57 South regarding a 2014 Dodge Journey automobile traveling at very fast speeds and eluding law enforcement. Maverick County Sheriff Deputies encountered the Dodge Journey vehicle and driver near the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway 57 South outside Eagle Pass traveling at excessive speed southbound towards the City of Eagle Pass. Both Maverick County Sheriff Deputies and Eagle Pass Police Department Officers followed the Dodge Journey into the city limits of Eagle Pass where it failed to control its excessive speed and crashed into the McCoy’s property and fence at the intersection of Highways 57 and 277 South, causing damages to the fence and other property at McCoy’s.
Other than Hernandez, no other persons were injured in the high speed accident. Hernandez was the lone occupant of the Dodge The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.
