Gallego: 2013 Federal Tax Season Starts, Encourages 23rd District of Texas Constituents to File Returns
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Pete P. Gallego (D-Alpine) announced that he will host tax assistance workshops at each end of 23rd District of Texas to help constituents with their 2013 Federal Tax Returns. Employers began sending W-2 forms, wage and tax statements, in mid-January. An Individual has until April 15 to file a federal tax return.
“Tax season is here and I want to help as many constituents get their fair share of federal tax dollars back,” he said. “My offices will be helping all constituents – self-employed workers, small business owners and non-profits – answering questions about filing their federal taxes and hosting workshops to help file their returns.”
For tax year 2011, 292,867 federal tax returns were filed in 23rd District of Texas. Of those returns, 249,602 received a refund. More than $906 million in taxes were returned to constituents in 23rd District of Texas for 2011, according to the Internal Revenue Services’ Taxpayer Advocate Service.
“Constituents qualify for a number of credits – from paying for student loans to child care to farming credits,” U.S. Rep. Gallego said. “My job as the federal representative is to be a steward of taxpayer dollars – in this case trying to get all constituents to file a tax return and claim money they are due. I encourage them to contact my offices for help.”

The San Antonio tax assistance event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1714 SW Military Drive, Suite 110, San Antonio, Texas 78221.
