Lady Eagles blast Laredo Alexander Lady Bulldogs 22-0 in District Opener

The mighty Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles blasted 18 hits in three innings to defeat the Laredo Alexander High School Lady Bulldogs 22-0 while standout Lady Eagle southpaw pitcher Krystal De La Cruz hurled a no-hitter to earn the District 29-5A Softball victory in the district opener for both teams at the Laredo United Independent School District Student Activity Complex in Laredo, Texas, on Tuesday, February 25, 2014.
The visiting Lady Eagles exploded for 12 runs in the top of the first inning against the Lady Bulldogs pitching to take a commanding lead, 12-0, as standout shortstop Sandra Mendoza led off with a bunt single and stole second, standout left fielder Krystal Perez received a base on balls, Sandra Mendoza stole third base and scored on an error by the Lady Bulldogs catcher, Perez stole second base and standout center fielder Monica Flores executed a perfect bunt single advancing Perez to third base and Perez scored on the throw to first base, Monica Flores stole second base and advanced to third base on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch, standout second baseman Melanie Mendoza received a base on balls and stole second base, standout designated hitter Dariela Velasquez blasted a two run homerun over the left field fence scoring Melanie Mendoza and herself, Krystal De La Cruz singled and Miryam Salinas came in as a courtesy runner and promptly stole second base, standout third baseman Nina Flores grounded out advancing Salinas to third base and Salinas scored on a passed ball, standout first baseman Samantha Fuentes walked, standout right fielder Vivian Ramirez executed a perfect bunt single advancing Fuentes to second base, Sandra Mendoza grounded out to second base advancing Fuentes to third base and Ramirez to second base, Krystal Perez hit a bunt single scoring Fuentes, Monica Flores singled advancing Ramirez to third base and Perez to second base and Ramirez scored on the throw, Melanie Mendoza singled scoring Perez and advancing Monica Flores to second base, Monica Flores stole third base and Melanie Mendoza stole second base, Dariela Velasquez singled scoring Monica Flores and advancing Melanie Mendoza to third base, Krystal De La Cruz doubled scoring Melanie Mendoza and advancing Velasquez to third base, Velasquez scored on the throw, Miryam Salinas came in as a courtesy runner for De La Cruz and advanced to third base on a wild pitch, Nina Flores walked, and Samantha Fuentes flied out to end the inning.

The Lady Eagles added seven runs in the top of the second inning on a triple by Sandra Mendoza, singles by Krystal Perez, Monica Flores, and Dariela Velasquez to take a 19-0 lead.
Lady Eagle hurler Krystal De La Cruz blanked the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the second inning but not before hitting by a pitch the leadoff hitter costing her a perfect game.
The Lady Eagles scored three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 22-0 lead on back to back singles by Krystal Perez, Monica Flores, and Dariela Velasquez.
De La Cruz shut out the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the third inning to earn the District 29-5A win for the Lady Eagles on the 15 run rule after three innings. De La Cruz had five strikeouts and one hit batsman in three innings of work in earning the no-hitter.
Leading the offensive hit parade for the Lady Eagles were Dariela Velasquez who batted 4 for 4 with a homerun, 5 RBIs, and 3 runs scored, Monica Flores went 4 for 4 with 1 RBI, 4 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases, Krystal Perez was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs, 4 runs scored, and one stolen base, Krystal De La Cruz batted 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored, Sandra Mendoza went 2 for 4 with a triple, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases, Melanie Mendoza was 1 for 1 with 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, and a stolen base, Vivian Ramirez batted 1for 1 with two runs scored, and Nina Flores went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs, one run scored, and a stolen base.
The Lady Eagles season record improves to 10-3 and 1-0 in District 29-5A. The Lady Eagles next play on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at 5:30 P.M. against the Laredo United South High School Lady Panthers at the Laredo United ISD SAC in Laredo, Texas.
