Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival to be held March 21-29th

The traditional Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival will be held during March 21st through 29th, 2014, announced William “Billy” Davis, President of the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce.
The 2014 International Friendship Festival will kick-off on Friday, March 21st, with the historic “Abrazo Ceremony” of friendship between the Mayors of Eagle Pass, Texas and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico at 5:30 P.M. at the middle of City of Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 1, located on Garrison Street, in Eagle Pass, sponsored by the Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras International Good Neighbor Council. At the Abrazo Friendship ceremony, each city will present their Mr. or Ms. Amigo(a) for 2014 and representatives from both communities will exchange a symbolic abrazo to commemorate their historic friendship and relationship. The Abrazo Ceremony is open to the public and admission is free.
Also kicking-off on March 21st is the traditional International Friendship Carnival and Amusement Rides at Shelby Park underneath International Bridge No. 1 to the delight and enjoyment of children and adults in Eagle Pass. Tickets for the Carnival may be purchased in advance at a discount at the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce, 400 Garrison Street, Eagle Pass, (830) 773-3224, at 20 Tickets for $10, a savings of 50%. Discounted pre-sale tickets must be purchased by Friday, March 21st, at 5 P.M. at the Chamber of Commerce office. The Carnival will run through March 29th.
The elegant Eagle Pass Library Foundation Annual Wine Tasting and Auction will be held on Saturday, March 22nd, at 7 P.M. at the City of Eagle Pass International Center for Trade. The Wine Tasting and Auction event is open to the public. This is an annual fundraiser for the Eagle Pass Library Foundation. Everyone is invited to attend and bring your cash or credit card.
The festivities continue on Sunday, March 23rd, with the Amistad Bowling Tournament to be held at Eagle Pass’ very own Desert Lanes at 1 P.M. The Bowling Tournament is open to the public. For more information, please call Desert Lanes at (830) 757-8065.
The celebration continues with the always festive Noches Mexicanas during March 27-29th at Shelby Park sponsored by the Eagle Pass Lions Club. Food, refreshments, music, and games will be available. Noches Mexicanas are open to the public.
The grand finale of the 2014 International Friendship Festival is the traditional Parade through downtown Eagle Pass with this year’s theme being “The Fabulous 50’s.” Everyone is invited to attend this great annual tradition.
