Maverick County Commissioners Court appointed new members to the Maverick County International Airport Advisory Board on Monday, March 24, 2014, at a special meeting held at Commissioners Courtroom at the Maverick County Courthouse.
Amidst competition from the City of Eagle Pass’ renewed interest in developing a municipal airport on real property owned by the C. C. Winn Family near U.S. Highway 277 South, Maverick County Commissioners Court appointed new members to the Maverick County International Airport Advisory Committee including pilot Miguel Angel Castillon, local attorney Edgar Juarez, local businessman Juan De Luna, local businessman Isidro De Los Santos, III, and County Commissioner Gerardo “Jerry” Morales.
Maverick County currently owns the only airport in the county known as the Maverick County International Memorial Airport located at the Radar Base, approximately 12 miles north of Eagle Pass on U.S. Highway 277 North. The airport is open and active with several airplanes and helicopters using it on a daily basis.
The Maverick County International Airport Advisory Board had been dormant and inactive for several years, requiring that new members be appointed. Replaced as outgoing Maverick County Airport Advisory Board members were local attorney Joaquin L. Rodriguez, Maverick County Development Corporation Executive Director Raul Perez, former Eagle Pass City Manager Daniel Valenzuela, and former Eagle Pass Mayor Chad Foster.
Maverick County Commissioner Roberto Ruiz made a presentation on the importance of maintaining the Maverick County International Airport Advisory Board active and the role an airport plays in the economic development of the community.
