Maverick County Democratic Party voters have spoken in the March 4, 2014 Primary Election with some clear winners and others going into a run-off on May 27th to determine certain races. The lowest voter turnout in modern times in Maverick County produced only 5,080 votes during the March 4th Democratic Party Primary Election.
In the 293rd Judicial District Court race, incumbent Judge Cynthia Muniz easily won unopposed garnering 3,296 votes while 365th Judicial District Court incumbent Judge Amado J. Abascal, III also won unopposed receiving 3,023 votes.
For County Judge, incumbent Judge David R. Saucedo easily won unopposed with 2,824 votes.
In the District Clerk’s race, Leopoldo “Polo” Vielma bested Carmen Molano with 2,264 votes to Molano’s 1,925 votes.
For County Clerk, incumbent Sara Montemayor defeated challenger Rosa Alfaro Martinez with 2,833 votes to Martinez’s 1,376 votes.
In the County Treasurer post, Interim County Treasurer Rito J. Valdez, III easily won unopposed getting 3,117 votes.
For County Commissioner of Precinct 1, Interim Commissioner Gerardo “Jerry” Morales easily won with 901 votes compared to challengers Leo Buentello’s 435 votes, Marcos “Mark” De Los Santos’ 126 votes, and Nancy Gonzalez’s 113 votes. Morales wins outright with 57.21% of the votes cast averting any run-off.
In the County Commissioner of Precinct 2, Rosy Cantu was top vote getter in a crowded field of eight candidates with 374 votes while Martha Chacon came in second with 236 votes and causing a run-off between Cantu and Chacon on May 27th, and Interim Commissioner Asalia Casares came in third with 227 votes, Yolanda Lopez Mauricio placed fourth with 196 votes, Daniela Flores-Aleman was fifth with 141 votes, Tom Cary was sixth with 78 votes, Everardo “Vera” Ballesteros came in seventh with 49 votes, and Marco Antonio Gloria was eighth with 8 votes.
For County Commissioner of Precinct 4, Interim Commissioner Roberto Ruiz was top vote getter with 457 votes while Guadalupe Cardona garnered 380 votes causing a run-off between Ruiz and Cardona on May 27th, and Rosa “Rossy” Leos was third with 145 votes and Luis Alfonso “Poncho” Ruiz was fourth with 89 votes.
In the Justice of the Peace of Precinct 1 race, incumbent Judge Kina Mancha narrowly missed an outright victory with 760 votes (49.74%) compared to challenger Charlie Ruiz who obtained 461 votes (30.17%) causing a run-off between Mancha and Ruiz on May 27th, and David Sifuentes came in third with 307 votes.
For Justice of the Peace of Precinct 2, Interim Judge Dora Madera easily won with 768 votes compared to challenger Gabino Musquiz’s 334 votes.
In the Justice of the Peace of Precinct 3, Place 1, race, political newcomer David J. Castaneda swept the election with 482 votes (57.18%) while challengers Gilberto “Gil” Salas garnered a respectable 265 votes and Ramiro “Ram” Garcia received 96 votes.
For Justice of the Peace of Precinct 3, Place 2, incumbent Judge Jeannie F. Smith easily won unopposed with 90 votes.
In the Justice of the Peace of Precinct 4 race, incumbent Judge Teresa Melendrez swept the election unopposed with 719 votes.
For Democratic Party County Chairman post, incumbent County Chairman Victor E. Perry easily won unopposed with 2,966 votes.
In the State Representative, District 74, race, incumbent Alfonso “Poncho” Nevarez easily won unopposed with 3,081 votes.
For the United States House of Representatives post, incumbent Congressman Pete P. Gallego swept the race unopposed with 2,976 votes.
