Rodolfo “Fito” Barrera named Mr. Amigo for 2014 Abrazo Ceremony

Former Eagle Pass Mayor and extraordinary community volunteer Rodolfo “Fito” Barrera has been named as the 2014 Mr. Amigo by the Eagle Pass International Good Neighbor Council for the scheduled March 21, 2014 Abrazo Ceremony between the Mayors of Eagle Pass, Texas and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico and its citizens.
The Piedras Negras, Coahuila International Good Neighbor Council has named Catholic Priest Jose “Pepe” Valdez, Director of the Piedras Negras Immigrant Center, as the Piedras Negras Mr. Amigo for the March 21st Abrazo Ceremony.
The traditional Abrazo Ceremony will be held on Friday, March 21st, at 5:30 P.M. at the middle of the City of Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 1 on Garrison Street. The Eagle Pass International Bridge No. 1 will be temporarily closed on Friday, March 21st, to allow the historic Abrazo Ceremony be held to celebrate the friendship and social and economic interdependence between the citizens of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras.
Barrera will lead the Eagle Pass delegation together with Mayor Ramsey English Cantu to the Abrazo Ceremony while Valdez will present the Piedras Negras delegation together with Mayor Fernando Puron at mid-bridge.
The Abrazo Ceremony officially kicks-off the 2014 Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival which will be celebrated during March 21-29th in Eagle Pass.
The Abrazo Ceremony is open to the public and admission is free and sponsored by the Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras International Good Neighbor Councils.
