Del Rio Border Patrol Agents Arrest Convicted Sex Offenders
Honduran Subject, Convicted Felon, Had Been Previously Deported
Del Rio, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station apprehended a convicted sex offender on Thursday.
Agents patrolling near Eagle Pass encountered Jorge Alberto Cruz-Mejia, 47, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras. During processing agents discovered that Cruz-Mejia had been previously deported from the United States and is a convicted sex offender. Cruz-Mejia was convicted of “Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child” by the 366th District Court in McKinney, Texas in 2006 and sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was removed to Honduras on Oct. 2, 2013.
Cruz-Mejia will be charged with 8 USC 1326 – illegal re-entry – and his prior order of removal will be reinstated. He will be removed to his native country upon completion of all criminal proceedings.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended 18 sex offenders since the beginning of Fiscal Year 14 which commenced on Oct. 1 2013. This total is equivalent to the 18 previously deported sex offenders arrested during FY 2013 in its entirety. With more than five months remaining in this fiscal year, sex offender arrests by Del Rio agents will surpass the previous year’s numbers.

Del Rio, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station apprehended a convicted sex offender on Wednesday.
Agents patrolling near Del Rio encountered David Gomez-Juarez, 31, an undocumented immigrant from Guanajuato, Mexico. During processing, agents discovered that Gomez-Juarez had been previously deported from the United States and is a convicted sex offender. Criminal records checks revealed Gomez-Juarez was convicted in 2010 in Dallas for Sexual Assault of a Child, and was sentenced to five years of incarceration.
Gomez-Juarez faces a charge of illegal entry – 8 USC 1326 – and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. So far during Fiscal Year 2014, which began Oct. 1, 2013, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended 17 sex offenders. During FY13, Del Rio Sector agents apprehended 18 previously deported sex offenders. Compared to the previous fiscal year to date, sex offender arrests are on a rise in the Del Rio Sector area of responsibility.
