Lady Eagle Sandra Mendoza garners third MVP as 2014 District 29-5A All-District Teams Announced

Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles Head Softball Coach Oscar Ruiz and C. C. Winn High School Lady Mavericks Head Softball Coach Gustavo Varela announced the 2014 District 29-5A All-District Softball Team Honors with Eagle Pass Lady Eagles standout senior shortstop Sandra Mendoza garnering her third consecutive Most Valuable Player Award in her stellar four year softball career.
The District 29-5A Head Softball Coaches named Laredo LBJ Lady Wolves standout freshman shortstop Melanie Gamboa as the Newcomer of the Year while Eagle Pass Lady Eagles Head Coach Oscar Ruiz was named the Coach of the Year by his peers.
The Regional Semifinalist (Sweet 16) Eagle Pass Lady Eagles had a total of 11 players named to the prestigious 2014 District 29-5A All-District Team, including Most Valuable Player Sandra Mendoza. Named to the First-Team All-District for the Lady Eagles are standout junior pitcher Krystal De La Cruz who went 12-0 in District 29-5A and 29-8 overall in the season and was selected unanimously by District 29-5A Head Softball Coaches; standout senior center fielder Monica Flores who was also selected unanimously; standout senior left fielder Krystal Perez who was also selected unanimously; standout senior right fielder Vivian Ramirez; standout senior first baseman Samantha Fuentes; standout junior Designated Player Dariela Velasquez; standout junior catcher Claudia Cruz; standout sophomore second baseman Melanie Mendoza; standout sophomore third baseman Nina Flores; and named to the Honorable Mention Team was standout sophomore utility player Sairah Gonzalez.
The Bi-District finalist C. C. Winn Lady Mavericks placed a total of nine players to the prestigious 2014 District 29-5A All-District Team. Named to the First Team All-District for the Lady Mavericks are standout junior shortstop Ariana Ruiz who was selected unanimously by the District 29-5A Head Softball Coaches; standout senior third baseman Ronnie Valdez; standout sophomore center fielder Alyssa Lopez; standout sophomore pitcher Amberly Garza; named to the Second Team All-District was standout freshman second baseman Cassandra Flores; and named to the Honorable Mention Team are standout sophomore catcher Lorena Sanchez; standout senior first baseman Lesly Salinas; standout senior left fielder Natalie Garcia; and standout sophomore right fielder Giselle Cerda.
Also named to the 2014 District 29-5A All-District First Team are pitchers Karina Moreno of Laredo LBJ who was selected unanimously and Bonnie Tijerina of Laredo United; catcher Pamela Rosas of Laredo United; first baseman Marissa Perez of United South; second baseman Brianna Stace of Laredo United; shortstop Ducle Garcia of Laredo United who was selected unanimously; and utility player Janelle Rodriguez who was selected unanimously.
Also named to the 2014 District 29-5A All-District Second Team are pitchers Ariana Galvan of Del Rio and Cassandra Ramirez of Laredo Alexander; catcher Karina Contreras of Laredo LBJ; first baseman Abigail Magana of Laredo United; second baseman Tania Castro of Laredo LBJ and Yamilex Gaona of United South; shortstops Sheccid Garcia of United South and Christiana Saenz; and outfielders Sabrina Guajardo of Del Rio, Neyda Moreno of Laredo LBJ, and Natalie Soto of Laredo United.
Also named to the 2014 District 29-5A Honorable Mention Team are Amy Garza of Laredo LBJ, Melissa Arriaga of Laredo LBJ, Leslie Gonzalez of Laredo LBJ, Ernestina Montejano of Del Rio, Jacqueline Montejano of Del Rio, Susie Gomez of Del Rio, Denise Collado of United South, Melinda Beltran of United South, Christina Cerda of United South, and Brianna Aker of Laredo United.
