Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees to Swear-in newly-elected Trustees and Elect Officers

The Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees will be holding a regular meeting on Thursday, November 13, 2014, at 6:00 P.M. at the De Luna Center located at 649 Webster Street in Eagle Pass, Texas, addressing several issues including the certification of the November 4, 2014 Board of Trustees Election results and winners and the swearing-in of the newly-elected Trustees followed by the election of officers.
Being certified as elected to the EPISD Board of Trustees and to be sworn-in are newly-elected Trustees Humberto Torralba, Jr. in Place 1, Rudy Bowles in Place 3, Dr. Hilda Martinez-Caballero in Place 5, and Lupita Fuentes in Place 6.
Eagle Pass Police Officer Humberto Torralba, Jr. narrowly won election to Place No. 1 over previously appointed Trustee Benjamin Rodriguez, III, by only 89 Votes. Torralba received 2,175 votes compared to Rodriguez’s 2,086 votes. This was Torralba’s first bid for public office.
Former Maverick County Judge and retired EPISD administrator Rudy Bowles is back as the newly-elected Place 3 Trustee, handily defeating incumbent Trustee Ramon Ramirez by 813 votes with Bowles receiving 2,915 votes compared to Ramirez’s 2.102 votes.
EPISD appointed Place 5 Trustee Pharmacist/Dr. Hilda Martinez-Caballero will also be sworn-in as she easily won election to a full three year term going unopposed in the November 4th election.
EPISD veteran Place 6 Trustee Lupita Fuentes will also be sworn-in as she drew no opponent and easily won re-election to another three-year term.
Following the swearing-in of the newly-elected Trustees, the EPISD Board will “reorganize” itself, that is, an election of officers will be held among the Trustees. The EPISD School Board custom, tradition, and practice is to rotate the leadership positions among the Trustees.
Current EPISD School Board Officers include President Ignacio “Nacho” Saucedo, Vice-President Glenda Purcell, and Secretary Lupita Fuentes. Additional current Board of Trustees include Dr. Hector Alvarez, Dr. Hilda Martinez-Caballero, Benjamin Rodriguez, III, and Ramon Ramirez. Rodriguez and Ramirez will step down as Trustees upon the certification of the November 4th election results and swearing-in of Torralba and Bowles.
The community is invited to attend the swearing-in of the newly-elected EPISD Board of Trustees on Thursday,November 13th at 6 P.M. at the De Luna Center located at 649 Webster Street. The EPISD regular meeting of November 13th is open to the public.
