City moving forward with Public Library renovations

The Eagle Pass City Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the use of competitive sealed proposals as the method of purchase that provides the best value to the municipality for the construction services related to the historic public library expansion and renovation project at their monthly regular meeting held on Thursday, December 4, 2014.
Agenda Item No. 11 called for the consideration and possible approval of a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Eagle Pass, Texas, authorizing the use of competitive sealed proposals as the method of purchase that provides the best value to the municipality for the construction services related to the historic public library expansion and renovation project.
Mayor Ramsey English Cantu opened the agenda item and City Manager Gloria Barrientos addressed council on the details regarding the agenda item.
Barrientos stated that the Eagle Pass Public Library renovation project was ready to be moved forward and that the only thing left was to procure a selection method to use for proposals on the construction services for the renovation project. “We are recommending to go with the competitive sealed bidding,” said Barrientos.
Mayor Cantu then called for a motion of approval.
Councilman Rudy Villalpando motioned to approve the City Manager’s recommendation to us the competitive sealed bidding process and Mayor Pro-Tem Luis E. Sifuentes seconded the motion.
During discussion, City Council discussed how the competitive sealed bid process works and what criteria is used in determining the best value to the City. The renovation of the public library is long overdue as the facility needs to be brought in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and upgraded with both interior and exterior renovations.
City Council unanimously approved to use the competitive sealed bids process in order to move forward the renovation project of the Eagle Pass Public Library located at the intersection of Main and Monroe Streets in downtown Eagle Pass.
The City of Eagle Pass is currently seeking and requesting Competitive Sealed Proposals from General Contractors for the Public Library Renovation and Expansion Project. The scope of work includes an addition and partial rehabilitation to the historic building. The City will select the best proposal providing the best value to the City.
Proposals will be received at www.PublicPurchase.com, until Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 3:00pm CST.
