Rollover Accident on U.S. Highway 277 South kills one person and injures four

Maverick County Sheriff Department Deputies and Eagle Pass Fire Department rescue personnel rushed to a one vehicle rollover accident on U.S. Highway 277 South near the Maverick and Dimmit Counties line at approximately 8:40 A.M. on Monday, December 15, 2014, resulting in the death on one female person and injuring four persons.
The rollover accident occurred one or two miles inside the Dimmit County line resulting in the Dimmit County Sheriff’s Department also responding to the accident. The Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers also arrived at the scene of the accident to investigate it.
According to preliminary reports, a Crystal City, Texas family traveling from Eagle Pass to Crystal City was involved in the rollover accident. It is believed that a deer crossed the path of the highway and the driver attempted to avert hitting the deer, causing the Ford Explorer Sport Trac automobile to roll over several times before landing upside down on the side of the highway.
Two persons, including a one year old child, were airlifted by helicopter to a San Antonio, Texas medical hospital for treatment of their severe injuries, including multiple fractures. Three other persons were transported to the Dimmit County Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
Maverick County Sheriff Department Deputies and Eagle Pass Fire Department rescue personnel assisted the Dimmit County Sheriff’s Department and Texas Department of Public Safety.
The rollover accident remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
