The City of Eagle Pass City Council will hear many important agenda items at their regular meeting on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at 5:30 P.M. at City Hall in Eagle Pass, Texas, including a presentation by Pete Nielsen of North American Coal Corporation regarding an overview of the Dos Republicas Coal Partnership’s Eagle Pass Mine and its economic impact.
Nielsen has previously addressed City Council regarding the Dos Republicas Coal Partnership’s Eagle Pass Mine.
Dos Republicas Coal Partnership is seeking a revised and expanded permit from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to discharge its open surface coal mine wastewater and storm drainage water into Elm Creek and the Rio Grande River. TCEQ has scheduled a public hearing on January 22, 2015, at 7 P.M. at the Texas Workforce Center, located at 1200 Ferry Street, in Eagle Pass, Texas. The TCEQ public hearing is open to the public.
The City of Eagle Pass together with Maverick County, Maverick County Hospital District, Maverick County Environmental and Public Health Association, George Baxter, and other local farmers, ranchers, and landowners oppose the Dos Republicas Coal Partnership’s Eagle Pass Mine for various environmental, pollution, public health, and other reasons.
The City Council meeting is open to the public.
