Youth Community Volunteer Paulo Alcozer named Citizen of the Year at 2015 Chamber Banquet

Eagle Pass youth community volunteer and intervention specialist, Paulo Alcozer, was named the 2015 Citizen of the Year at the 88th Annual Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce Banquet on Friday, February 6, 2015, at the Eagle Pass International Center for Trade in Eagle Pass, Texas. amidst a standing ovation.
Alcozer is “an individual who generously, tirelessly, and relentlessly volunteers, from early mornings to late evenings, almost daily, to mentor and help improve the lives of young people, especially at-risk youths, in our community,” said Chamber Board of Director Humberto “Beto” Garza.
Alcozer has “earned the respect and trust of the youths serviced by juvenile probation as a result of the love, care, support, and attention infused into….this person’s labor of love” in the community. added Garza.
Alcozer is known to “listen to the problems of each individual youth and deliver wise counsel, guidance, and hope” to local youth, noted Garza. He treats the local youth with “love, care, and support and attention” by mentoring youths to develop discipline, work habits, and positive community activities, said Garza.
While many in the community shy away from at-risk youths and view them as juvenile delinquents, Alcozer sees the raw potential of each youth and assists and counsels them to become bright and shining diamonds and contributors in society. His door is always open to local youths despite having a busy schedule as a professional Mixed Martial Arts athlete.
Alcozer credits his deep faith in and guidance by The Lord and his son, Jesus Christ, for helping him to turn around local youths into positive contributors to society. He has enjoyed much success with troubled local youths and showing them the way to succeed in today’s competitive world.
Alcozer’s unselfishish and exemplary dedication to helping the youths in our
community merits that he be named the 2015 Citizen of the Year Award, announced Garza. Chamber First Vice-President, Dr. Claudia Rodriguez-Wright and Garza presented Alcozer with a plaque of recognition as the 2015 Citizen of the Year Award.
Other nominees for the Citizen of the Year Award included Lisa Cain, Mayor Ramsey English Cantu, , Mary Ann Glammeyer, Victor Rangel, Dr. Luis Gutierrez-Perry, and Paulo Alcozer.
