Eagle Passan Angel Ricardo Garcia graduates from U.S. Naval Academy

Eagle Pass native Angel Ricardo Garcia graduated from the prestigious United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland on May 22, 2015, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering and a commission as a U.S. Navy Ensign.
Garcia is the son of Eagle Passans Mark and Lupita Garcia. He becomes the first native Eagle Passan to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy. He is a graduate of Eagle Pass High School, Class of 2010.
During his four years at the U.S. Naval Academy, Garcia received a rigorous and challenging academic education and a physical and military training experience. While at Annapolis, Garcia participated in the Drum and Bugle Corps, Company Executive Officer Club, and the Aviation Club. His goal is to become a pilot in the U.S. Navy. He will serve a five year commission in the U.S. Navy after his graduation.
The U.S. Naval Academy was founded in 1845 and is one of the most prestigious military academy in the United States and world. The Academy is a four year service academy that teaches midshipmen morally, physically, and mentally to be professional officers in the naval service. More than 4,400 men and women from every state in the U.S. and several foreign countries make up the student body at the Academy, known as the Brigade of Midshipmen. Recognized as one of the top five undergraduate engineering schools and among the top 20 liberal arts colleges by U.S. News and World Report, the U.S. Naval Academy provides a Bachelor of Science degree in 25 major subjects taught by both military and civilian instructors as well as a world class education in leadership, ethics, small arms, seamanship and navigation tactics, naval engineering and weapons, and military law. Midshipmen participate in intercollegiate sports and extracurricular activities. Midshipmen serve a five year commission in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marines upon their graduation from the Academy. Every year, approximately 1.200 young men and women are admitted to the Naval Academy’s incoming class.
The U.S. Naval Academy has more than 81,000 alumni, including one president of the United States, 21 members of Congress, five governors, 73 Medal of Honor recipients, two Nobel Prize winners, 52 astronauts, and over 4,000 Admirals and Generals.
Garcia was joined at his graduation by his parents, brother-Marky, and family friends. He is the grandson of the late Oscar and Maria Fernandez and Mr. and Mrs. Angelo E. Garcia.
