C. C. Winn Mavericks corralled Laredo Cigarroa Toros 44-6 during 2015 Homecoming Festivities

The highlight of every American high school student and alumni are the annual Homecoming Festivities during the football season. The Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks corralled District 29-5A nemesis Laredo Cigarroa High School Toros 44-6 on Friday, October 16, 2015, during 2015 Homecoming Festivities at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium in Eagle Pass, Texas.
During halftime Homecoming festivities, Laura Montalvo and Ramiro Valdez were crowned as the 2015 C. C. Winn High School Homecoming Queen and King representing Cheer.
Also honored were America Segura and Andres Echavarria as 2015 Homecoming Princess and Prince representing Media Tech; Gabriela Castillo and Roberto Salinas as 2015 Homecoming Duchess and Dutch representing Life Skills; La’Kira Flores and Reyes Lopez as 2015 Homecoming Countess and Count representing Football; and Mariela Sanchez and Abel Gonzalez as 2015 Homecoming Lady and Lord representing the thundering Maverick Band.
After fumbling the football during their first possession, the Mavericks explosive offense engineered a textbook 70 yard touchdown drive down the Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium artificial turf during their second possession of the game, culminating on a three yard keeper TD by standout Mavericks Quarterback Reyes Lopez with 4:55 minutes remaining in the first quarter and the point after attempt failed to take a 6-0 lead early in the game.
The stout Mavericks defense rose to the challenge during the entire game stopping the potent Toros offensive scheme of screen and short passes and running plays. On the Toros second offensive possession, the Mavericks hard hitting defense caused a Toros fumble and Mavericks linebacker Ernesto Villasenor recovered the pigskin at the Toros 20 yard line with 3:19 remaining in the first period.
The Mavericks offense wasted no time and attacked the Toros defense with a combination of runs and short passes resulting in a six yard touchdown run by standout Mavericks Running Back Edward Martinez and the point after attempt was good, giving the Mavericks a 13-0 lead with 2:15 minutes left in the first stanza of Homecoming festivities.
On their fourth offensive possession of the game, the potent Mavericks offense orchestrated a patented 70 yards touchdown drive to the delight of their loyal Maverick Nation aficionados, culminating with a dazzling 33 yard TD run by Mavericks RB Edward Martinez and the extra point was good to take a commanding 20-0 lead with 9:55 minutes remaining in the first-half of play.
The stingy Mavericks defense stymied the streaky Toros offense again on the ensuing possession resulting in a Mavericks record setting 92 yards interception touchdown return by standout Mavs Safety Rene Auces and the point after attempt was good to take a solid 27-0 lead with 1:58 remaining before the much anticipated 2015 Homecoming Queen and King announcement during half-time. The Maverick Nation fans witnessed a record breaking quick six interception touchdown return by Safety Rene Auces which will be talked about for ages.
After the 2015 Homecoming festivities, the Toros made adjustments and took their first second-half possession down the football field mixing short screens and runs to successfully punch the pigskin across the thundering Mavericks goal line on a one yard touchdown run by Toros RB Jose Mosqueda but the point after attempt failed, narrowing the score 27-6 with 8:55 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Not to be outdone, the Mavericks high octane offense answered back with a 50 yard touchdown drive culminating on an 11 yard TD pass from Mavs QB Reyes Lopez to Mavs Wide Receiver Hugo Rodriguez and the extra point kick was good to take a 34-6 lead with 7:19 minutes left in the third period.
The Mavericks defense stopped the Toros on their next possession, forcing the Toros to punt the football.
Mavericks QB Reyes Lopez and the dominant Mavs Offensive line orchestrated another 65 yards touchdown drive on the Student Activity Center turf culminating on a sizzling 34 yards TD run by standout Mavs RB Edward Martinez whom zig zag himself between Toros defenders to the end zone and the point after attempt sailed through the uprights for a commanding Mavericks lead 41-6 with 5:30 minutes left in the third stanza of Homecoming. After this score, Mavericks Head Football Coach Eric Villasenor decided to put in his second team offense and defense in the game to give them valuable playing time and experience.
During the fourth quarter, the Mavericks offense under QB Michael Paniagua and RB Gustavo Cardenas moved the ball up and down the field against the Toros, resulting in an 18 yard field goal by Mavs Place Kicker Sergio Saucedo to take a 44-6 lead with 4:07 minutes remaining in the 2015 Homecoming game.
The loyal Maverick Nation aficionados cheered and applauded the Mavs for their outstanding performance and victory against the visiting Laredo Cigarroa Toros and thoroughly enjoyed the 2015 Homecoming festivities.
The C. C. Winn Mavericks improve to 3-4 overall in the season and 2-2 in District 29-5A standings.
The Mavs have a short week to prepare for their next game on Thursday, October 22, 2015, against the much improved and competitive Laredo Martin High School Tigers under the helm of former Mavericks Head Football Coach David Charles. The Tigers made the state playoffs last year under Coach Charles. The game is at 7 P.M. at the beautifully renovated Shirley Field in Laredo, Texas.
