Maverick County Commissioners Court declare County a Disaster Area due to October 8-9th Floods

Maverick County Commissioners Court approved a resolution declaring Maverick County a Disaster Area due to the severe flash floods of October 8-9, 2015 at an Emergency Commissioners Court meeting held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Over 170 real properties in Maverick County were severely affected by the October 8-9, 2015 flash floods caused by 12 inches of rain which socked the community in a 24 hour period, announced Maverick County Emergency Operations Director Leopoldo Vielma. Vielma noted this 170 property figure only includes properties located outside the City limits of Eagle Pass, Texas. Vielma added the City of Eagle Pass has another list of properties affected within the City limits.
Approval of the Emergency Disaster Declaration by Commissioners Court will enable Maverick County to seek funds from both the State of Texas and the federal government to assist residents repair the damages to their personal and real properties arising from the flooding.
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber and his Deputies conducted over 70 rescues alone on October 8, 2015 during the height of the severe thunderstorms.
Maverick County was forced to open several Emergency Protection Centers to house residents whose homes were flooded by the October 8th flash floods.
The American Red Cross has opened an Emergency Relief Center at the City of Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center to help flood victims.
Two men are reported missing in the City of Eagle Pass and have not been located as of press time. Both men were last seen in the Eagle Pass Arroyo (Creek) area on October 8th.
