Pioneer Eye Surgeon Dr. Carlos E. Rodriguez passes torch to Daughter Dr. Priscilla R. Heredia and Associates

Eagle Pass native and pioneer eye surgeon, Dr. Carlos E. Rodriguez, is pleased to announce that he is passing the torch of Southwest Texas Eyecare Associates to his daughter, Dr. Priscilla R. Heredia, and his associates, Dr. Michael W. Mapp and Dr. Monique Nguyen, effective immediately while retiring from practice but staying at the helm of Southwest Texas Eyecare Associates as its President and Chief Executive Officer.
During the past 31 years, Dr. Carlos E. Rodriguez has been a pioneer Ophthalmic surgeon in the U.S.-Mexico border and Middle Rio Grande Region having founded the first eye surgery center in the region known as Southwest Texas Eyecare Associates in 1984 and later founding Southwest Texas Optical, Inc.
“I am deeply honored that Maverick Countians and Middle Rio Grande citizens have depended on Southwest Texas Eyecare Associates for all their ophthalmology and optometry needs during the past 31 years. I am blessed to pass the practice to my daughter, Dr. Priscilla R. Heredia, and our contributing associates, Dr. Michael W. Mapp and Dr. Monique Nguyen,” said Dr. Rodriguez. “I will remain active at Southwest Texas Eyecare Associates as its President and Chief Executive Officer,” added Dr. Rodriguez.
Dr. Priscilla R. Heredia is a graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry in May 2015 with Magna Cum Laude honors and has now joined her father at Southwest Texas Eyecare Associates. Dr. Heredia completed her Optometry internships at the South Texas Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Lackland Air Force Base, both in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Heredia is licensed as a Therapeutic Optometrist and as an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association, and Lions Club. She is returning to her hometown to fulfill her passion of serving the community she grew up in.
Dr. Heredia is accepting referrals for eye exams, including diabetic, glaucoma, and pediatric exams.
Dr. Heredia was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Optometrists, National Optometric Student Association, and the Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity while at the University of Houston College of Optometry.
Dr. Heredia also attended the University of Texas at San Antonio and the University of Houston, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree with Magna Cum Laude honors. She was a member of the National Golden Key Honor Society, Baptist Student Ministries, and a cheerleader at UTSA. She was an honors graduate of Eagle Pass High School in 2007. She is married to Daniel Heredia of Eagle Pass. Dr. Heredia is the daughter of Angie Rodriguez and Dr. Carlos E. Rodriguez.
Joining Dr. Heredia at Soutwest Texas Eyecare Associates are Dr. Michael W. Mapp and Dr. Monique Nguyen.
Dr. Mapp has taken over all ophthalmological surgeries previously performed by Dr. Rodriguez. Dr. Mapp provides comprehensive ophthalmologic medical and surgical diagnosis, cataract surgery, intraocular lenses, glaucoma surgery, medical retina, and other ophthalmological services. Dr. Mapp is a glaucoma sub-specialist. Dr. Mapp is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Monique Nguyen provides comprehensive optometry services, including eye exams and contact lenses. Dr. Nguyen is also licensed as a Therapuetic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. Dr. Nguyen is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry. She speaks Spanish, English, and Vietnamese.
In addition, Southwest Texas Optical offers two locations in Eagle Pass for all the eyewear and contact lens needs of patients and is under the leadership of Carlos E. Rodriguez, II, B.S., M.B.A.
Drs. Rodriguez, Heredia, Mapp, and Nguyen welcome all Eagle Pass and Middle Rio Grande patients to the new and expanded Southwest Texas Eyecare and Southwest Texas Optical for all their eye surgery, ophthalmological, optometric, spectacle, and contact lens needs.
