2016 Election Candidate Registration Period opens November 14th

The Maverick County, state, and federal election season gets underway on Saturday, November 14, 2015 with the opening of the candidates registration period. The candidates registration period runs through December 14 , 2015, the last day to register as a candidate.
Candidates may register with their respective political party Chairman. Democrats may register with Democratic Party Chairman Victor Perry while Republicans may register with Republican Chairman Lowell McManus.
Among the local political positions up for election are 293rd Judicial District Attorney, currently held by Roberto Serna, Maverick County Sheriff, currently held by Tom Schmerber, Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 1, currently held by Jerry Morales, Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 3, currently held by Pete Venegas, Jr., Maverick County Attorney, currently held by Ricardo Ramos, Maverick County Tax Assessor-Collector, currently held by Isa Mari Villarreal Sanchez, Maverick County Constables for Precincts 1, 2, 3-AB, 3-C, and 4, Maverick County Democratic Party Chairman, currently held by Victor Perry, State Representative District 74, currently held by Poncho Nevarez, State Senator District 19, currently held by Carlos I. Uresti, U.S. House of Representative District 23, currently held by Will Hurd, and U.S. Senator, currently held by John Cornyn.
Sheriff Tom Schmerber is expected to register for re-election on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Yopo’s Restaurant, located at 2420 E Main Street, at 11:00 am and the public is invited to join Sheriff Schmerber during this event.
Former Sheriff Tomas Herrera is also expected to register for his bid to become Maverick County Sheriff once again on Saturday, November, 14, 2015 at the San Juan Plaza at 11:00 am. Herrera invites the public to attend.
Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 1 Jerry Morales is expected to register for re-election.
Newly appointed Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 3 Pete Venegas, Jr. will also be registering to seek election for a full four year term.
Other positions that will be up for grabs during this election season are as follows; Maverick County Constables for Pct. 1, 2, 3ab, 3c, and 4.
Another position that will be contested will be the Maverick County Attorney seat. Incumbent County Attorney Ricardo Ramos is believed to be seeking his re-election.
The Maverick County Tax Assessor Collector position will also be up for election.
Incumbent and long-time Tax Assessor Collector Isa Mari Sanchez Villareal will be seeking her re-election.
The Maverick County Democratic Chair position will also be up for election during the March 1, 2016 election cycle.
The state races to be contested during the 2016 election cycle will be a position for Texas Railroad Commissioner, state board of education district one position, State Senate District 19 and State Representative District 74.
State Representative District 74 Alfonso (Poncho) Nevarez is expected to seek re-election for the position.
Nevarez asks the community to make sure to exercise your right and go out and vote and make your voice count in this very important election cycle.
State Senator Carlos I. Uresti is also expected to seek his re-election this coming election as well.
The Texas Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 with Early Voting Period commencing February 16-26, 2016.
