Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 3 Jose Luis Rosales tendered a letter of resignation effective immediately on Monday, November 2, 2015, one day before his federal court criminal case rearraingment and docket control hearing before U.S. District Judge Alia Moses for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, in Del Rio, Texas.
Rosales was indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2015 of four counts of receiving a bribe from contractors or individuals receiving public construction contracts from Maverick County. The federal indictment alleges that Rosales manipulated the bidding process to ensure that the contractor or person whom he wanted be awarded the public construction contract from Maverick County.
The federal indictment alleges that the contractors or persons awarded the Maverick County public construction contract inflated the bid to pay for the construction, make a profit, and pay a bribe to Commissioner Rosales.
Rosales faces up to 10 years of federal prison for each of the four counts if he is found guilty. A federal indictment is not evidence of a person’s guilt, but merely are charges against the person. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a Court at Law.
Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo has scheduled a press conference on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 5:30 P.M. to announce the appointment of a new County Commissioner for Precinct 3 to replace Rosales.
