Maverick County Commissioner of Precinct 1, Gerardo “Jerry” Morales, will announce his intent to seek re-election at a scheduled Campaign Announcement on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 5:30 P.M. through 8:30 P.M. at the VFW Post 8562, located at 2432 E. Main Street, in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Morales will seek the Democratic Party candidate nomination for County Commissioner of Precinct 1 at the March 1, 2016 Texas Primary Election. Early voting starts on February 16, 2016 and runs through February 26, 2016. The Texas General Election will be on November 1, 2016.
Morales originally was appointed to the County Commissioner Precinct 1 position by Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo to replace former County Commissioner Precinct 1 Eliaz Maldonado, whom resigned after pleading guilty to bribery and corruption charges of a federal grand jury indictment in Del Rio, Texas. Maldonado was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Alia Moses.
Morales later successfully ran for the unexpired term of County Commissioner of Precinct 1 on November 4, 2014, defeating several candidates. Morales now seeks a full four-year term as County Commissioner of Precinct 1.
Morales is a full-time County Commissioner and has been busy tackling many problems affecting Precinct 1 residents, including flooding issues, street paving, Las Quintas Creek clean-up, Maverick County Lake, and many more issues.
Candidate registration period runs through December 14, 2015 with Maverick County Democratic Party Chairman Victor E. Perry and Republican Party Chairman Lowell McManus.
