One Killed & One Injured in Auto Accident with Eagle Pass Independent School District Bus at Intersection of Loop 480 & El Indio Highway

A 60 Year Old Corpus Christi, Texas man, Mark Rogers, was killed and another female passenger seriously injured in an auto accident with an Eagle Pass Independent School District bus at the intersection of Loop 480 and El Indio Highway (FM 1021) at approximately 3:26 PM. on Monday, November 9, 2015, in Eagle Pass, Texas.
The deceased driver of the gold colored Ford Expedition was turning off of Loop 480 into El Indio Highway at the intersection when it was suddenly struck on the driver side by a passing Eagle Pass Independent School Bus. The female EPISD Bus driver sustained serious injuries but not life threatening. The female passenger on the Ford Expedition suffered critical injuries and was airlifted by helicopter to a San Antonio, Texas medical facility for specialized medical treatment.
Fortunately, there were no school children on the bus at the time of the accident. Traffic on El Indio Highway was temporarily closed but later reduced to one lane while the Texas Department of Public Safety and Maverick County Sheriff’s Department investigated the accident. The Eagle Pass Police Department also assisted. The Eagle Pass Fire Department EMS responded to the accident.
The fatal auto accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber cautions drivers to approach the intersection of Loop 480 and El Indio Highway carefully, make a complete stop at the intersection and look both ways before entering the intersection and make sure there is no oncoming traffic when entering El Indio Highway.
Rogers and his passenger were visiting Eagle Pass to go play at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino.
