Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo announced the appointment of former Maverick County Constable of Precinct 3 Pete Venegas as the new County Commissioner of Precinct 3 after the sudden resignation of Commissioner Jose Luis Rosales on Monday, November 2nd at a press conference held on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, in Eagle Pass, Texas
Venegas resigned from his Maverick County Constable of Precinct 3 position before being appointed as the new Precinct 3 County Commissioner because state law prohibits an elected official from holding two public positions which receive emolument (compensation).
Venegas is employed with the Eagle Pass Independent School District as a law enforcement officer. He also has served as Contstable of Precinct 3 for many years prior to his appointment as the new Commissioner of Precinct 3.
Venegas also served as a Board of Commissioner of the Eagel Pass Housing Authority for several years.
Venegas is a close political ally of County Judge Saucedo for many years. His appointment as the new County Commissioner of Precinct 3 is not a surprise to Maverick Countians.
Maverick County Commissioners Court will now have to appoint a new Constable for Precinct 3 to replace Venegas as a result of his resignation at their next available meeting on Monday, November 9, 2015.
