Five Killed in Head-On Auto Collision on US Highway 57 in Maverick County

Five people were killed in a head-on automobile collision between a 2010 white Chevrolet Pick-Up Truck and a 2007 blue Dodge Charger four door sedan on U.S. Highway 57 South near the Maverick County-Zavala County line at approximately 1:45 A.M. on Monday, December 14, 2015, announced Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber. The horrific accident occurred approximately 30 miles outside the City of Eagle Pass, Texas.
Preliminary investigation reports indicate that the 2010 white Chevrolet Pick-Up Truck was traveling west from San Antonio, Texas to Eagle Pass while the 2007 Dodge Charger automobile was traveling east from Eagle Pass to Somerset, Texas. Texas Department of Public Safety investigators noted that the Dodge Charger is alleged to have invaded the lane of travel of the Chevrolet Pick-Up truck.
The white Chevrolet Pick-Up Truck is alleged to belong to a Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas member while the Dodge Charger automobile belongs to a family from Somerset, Texas.
Due to the force of the head-on collision, the white Chevrolet Pick-Up Truck smashed into the cabin of the Dodge Charger. The white Chevrolet Pick-Up Truck had two women and two children traveling in it while the Dodge Charger vehicle also had two women and two children traveling in it.
Among the five dead include two women and three children and another child and two adults were airlifted to a San Antonio, Texas Medical Hospital for emergency treatment.
Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the five people killed in the accident, including the driver of the Dodge Charger, Ana Flores Marquez, age 17, a passenger, Perla Sanchez, age 35, a child passenger, Yetli Flores Marquez, age 10, and two children from the Chevrolet Pick-Up truck, Dominico Gonzalez, age 2, and Adrian Gonzalez, age 10, both members of the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas in Eagle Pass.
U.S. Highway 57 South was temporarily closed from approximately 1:45 A.M. through 6:30 A.M. while law enforcement and rescue authorities attended to the injured and investigated the tragic accident.
The investigation is under the auspices of the Texas Department of Public Safety with the assistance of the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department.
City of Eagle Pass Fire Department Personnel and Emergency Medical Services also assisted.
The names of two women in the Chevrolet Pick-Up and a child in the Dodge Charger who were seriously injured in the accident and are in intensive care at San Antonio medical facilities were not released as of press time.
