The Eagle Pass Independent School District (EPISD) Board of Trustees are scheduled to meet in a special board meeting on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at 12 Noon at the District’s Central Office Board Room, located at 1420 Eidson Road, in Eagle Pass, Texas to discuss and take possible action on the hiring of a new principal for Eagle Pass High School. The EPISD School Board meeting is open to the public.
According to the agenda posted for the EPISD School Board special meeting, the Board is going into Closed (Executive Session) “to discuss the request to hire a professional employee to serve as Principal of Eagle Pass High School subject to possible future reassignment by the Superintendent.”
Following the Closed Session, the EPISD School Board will go into Open Session to “consider and take appropriate action on the request to hire a professional employee to serve as Principal of Eagle Pass High School subject to possible future reassignment by the Superintendent.”
Clearly, the agenda indicates the EPISD School Board is meeting to hire a new Principal at Eagle Pass High School after the controversial decision by Superintendent Gilberto Gonzalez to reassign Vale Moreno as Principal for Eagle Pass High School to Principal of Ray Darr Elementary.
Many faculty members, staff, students, and parents have protested and objected to Moreno’s reassignment by Superintendent Gilberto Gonzalez as not being in the best interest of students and taxpayers. Many believe Superintendent Gonzalez’s decision to reassign Moreno is illogical, irrational, politically motivated, and an abuse of discretion.
Vale Moreno filed a formal grievance against the Eagle Pass Independent School District and Superintendent Gilberto Gonzalez on Friday, January 15, 2016, according to the EPISD’s personnel policies and procedures, which should take several weeks to go through the grievance process and ultimately reach the School Board.
Candidates for the now vacant Eagle Pass High School Principal position have been interviewed by an Interview Committee and the EPISD School Board is expected to take action on Thursday, January 21, 2016, in hiring a new Principal of Eagle Pass High School.
The EPISD School Board is composed of Lupita Fuentes, President; Hilda P. Martinez, Vice-President; Dr. Hector Alvarez, Secretary; Glenna Purcell, Trustee; Ignacio J. Saucedo, Trustee; Rudy Bowles, Trustee; and Humberto Torralba II, Trustee.
