Gun Owner Accidentally Shoots Self While Showing Gun

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber announced that Cibolo, Texas resident Francisco Luna, age 31, accidentally shot himself in his right leg while showing his 9MM handgun to friends in Las Quintas Fronterizas Subdivision in Eagle Pass, Texas on Saturday, January 16, 2016.
Luna was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for emergency medical treatment of his gunshot wound and was later airlifted to a San Antonio, Texas medical facility for specialized medical treatment.
Luna’s injury included perforating an artery in his right leg, endangering his life. Luna is reportedly recovering from his self-inflicted gunshot wound at the San Antonio hospital.
Sheriff Schmerber urged all firearm owners to check the safety on all guns and learn how to properly use and handle handguns to avoid similar accidents. Sheriff Schmerber also stated that firearm owners should obtain a concealed handgun license from the State of Texas.
During the month of January 2016, the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department is giving gun locks for free to all Maverick County residents while supplies last. Sheriff Schmerber encourages all firearm owners to obtain their free gun locks and install them on their firearms to avoid similar accidents.
