The 2016 Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez Memorial Cowboy Breakfast was a great success as over 1,000 people were served a traditional cowboy breakfast at the 2016 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, held at the Zan Mathies Show Barn in Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas, announced Tim Hardt, President of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association.
Between local patrons, guests, and volunteers, over 1,000 people enjoyed the scrumptuous cowboy breakfast cooked by local volunteers and served by members of the C. C. Winn High School Future Farmers of America students.
The comunity of Maverick County came out in full support of the local youths participating in the 2016 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show.
The Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez Memorial Cowboy Breakfast is a joint collaborative effort between the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce and the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show.
Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees President Lupita Fuentes stated that local students enjoy participating annually in the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show because of its many educational values and the opportunity to raise money for their college education. The Future Farmers of America (FFA) program is an important curriculum segment at both C. C. Winn High School and Eagle Pass High School. “The FFA teaches and develops the future agricultural producers and leaders in Texas and the country,” said Fuentes. “The Eagle Pass Independent School District supports both the FFA and 4-H Clubs training of our youth to become responsible and productive citizens and leaders in society,” added Fuentes.
United States Department of Agriculture Texas Farm Service Executive Director Judith Canales also attended the event and sponsored an information booth regarding the many services offered by USDA to all American farmers and ranchers. “USDA fully supports all American youth interested in studying and becoming future producers and leaders in American agriculture,” said Canales. “Texas agricultural producers and farmers are significant contributors to the American economy, and many of them get started in local county livestock shows such as the Maverick County Livestock Show and through their 4-H and FFA Clubs,” added Canales.
USDA also provides assistance to Texas youth by awarding grants through its Texas Rural Communities Program, including youth from Maverick County, noted Canales.
“We appreciate the community’s support of the Maverick County Jurnior Livestock Show and the youth of Maverick County,” said Hardt. “We like to invite all the local and surrounding area businesses to support the 2016 MCJLS by becoming purchasers at Saturday, January 30th, sale of the animal projects exhibited by our youth,” added Hardt.
The 2016 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale runs from January 27-30, 2016, at the Zan Mathies Show Barn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass. The public is invited to attend and support the youth of Maverick County.
