The federally funded community health center, United Medical Centers (UMC), introduced its new Chief Executive Officer William Worrell to the public at a press conference held on Monday January 11, 2016 at the UMC Administration Conference Room located at 2525 North Veterans Boulevard in Eagle Pass, Texas, announced UMC Clinic Director Humberto Duran.
Introducing Worrell to the public was UMC Clinic Director Humberto Duran. UMC serves the counties of Maverick, Val Verde, and Kinney through a total of 12 medical clinics or service centers with over a $25 Million operating budget and over 350 employees.
Worrell thanked the UMC Board of Directors for giving him the opportunity to lead the tri-county federally funded community healthcare agency and the members of the public and new media who attended his first press conference.
Worrell presented the UMC mission as being “a private non-profit corporation whose main objective is to improve the quality of life through the provision of comprehensive health care services” to the residents of Maverick, Val Verde, and Kinney counties.
Worrell emphasized UMC’s goals are to “provide universal access to primary healthcare, reducing disparities in care, and improving health in the communities they serve.” Worrell added that UMC recognizes that “all individuals deserve to be treated with respect, dignity, sensitivity, and compassion.” Worrell noted that UMC strives to achieve and provide the following values to its patients: “Excellence, Customer Service, Compassion, and Stewardship.”
“Right now we are looking at expanding and are currently looking to include more permanent physicians so we can expand our services to the community. We are also looking to expanding and improving clinical quality to make sure our patients are taken care of,” said Worrell.
Worrell also stated that another important aspect of the expanding process was looking at other grants and possible funding which could be available to health care agencies for increased medical services and treatments to the communities UMC serves.
Worrell stated that providing adequate medical services to the community and surrounding areas was the most important goal to take on as it has been done in previous years as the UMC is the largest healthcare provider in our area, servicing the healthcare needs of 32,000 individual patients with close to 130,000 patient visits per year in the tri-county service area.
Worrell is enthusiastic to be part of UMC and looks forward to working with all patients and communities in providing the best healthcare services on the United States-Mexico border.
Worrell previously worked as the Director of the Ryan White HIV Program at the Maverick County Hospital District for several years. He recently graduated from the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission’s Leaders Across Borders Program in 2015, enhancing his knowledge of the leading healthcare needs and issues on the U.S.-Mexico border.
