Senator Carlos Uresti Hospitalized
Press Release
San Antonio, TX—Senator Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio) is in good condition and undergoing treatment at a San Antonio area hospital after being diagnosed with “carotid artery dissection” due to a tear in his carotid artery which caused blockage near his head. Senator Uresti, a Marine, is in otherwise “tip-top” shape.
“I had a headache and neck pain for almost a week, and on Saturday made the decision to finally get it checked out. Less than two hours later, my doctor admitted me into the emergency room. If I didn’t have insurance, I’m not sure I would have gone. This personal and serious experience further solidifies in my mind the importance of reducing the high rate of uninsured Texas families.
“Being from the Southside, and a Marine—I know that many men are raised with the mindset to just ‘tough it out’ when you have a pain. You might eat healthy, exercise, or train for a marathon—you name it—but if your body gives you a sign that something might be wrong, you need to listen and get it checked out ASAP. No amount of pride is worth your life.” said Senator Carlos Uresti.
Senator Uresti, age 52, is expected to make a full recovery and will be released from the hospital sometime mid-week.
“The care that I have received from my doctors and nursing staff has been incredible. They identified the medical issue and immediately begin to treat it before it could progress. I will be back to working for my 821,000 constituents in no time at all.” said Uresti
Sen. Uresti represents Senate District 19, which covers more than 35,000 square miles and contains all or part of 17 counties, two international ports of entry, eleven state parks, 51 school districts, 2700 miles of highways, and more than 23,000 producing oil and gas wells in both the Eagle Ford Shale and Permian Basin. The district is larger than 12 states and 82 Nations, and contains over one third of the Texas-Mexico border. Sen. Uresti is proud to serve on the Finance, Natural Resources & Economic Development, Health & Human Services, and Administration Committees. Senator Uresti is the first Senator from San Antonio to serve on the Legislative Budget Board.
