Eagle Pass Lady Eagles Softball capture District 29-6A Championship with 11-4 Win over Laredo Alexander

The mighty Eagle Pass High School Lady Eagles Softball Team captured the 2016 District 29-6A Championship on Friday, April 15, 2016 with a convincing 11-4 win over the Laredo Alexander High School Lady Bulldogs at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Student Activity Center Softball Field. The Lady Eagles clinched their sixth consecutive District Softball Championship and now have one remaining district game against the Del Rio Queens on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 7 P.M. at Del Rio, Texas before commencing another run in the State Playoffs for the coveted State Championship.
Freshman standout pitcher Kaitlin Galvan earned the win hurling four innings and standout reliever Leenette Krezdorn contributed three solid innings to seal the win and 2016 District Championship. The Lady Eagles improved to 9-0 in District 29-6A with one game remaining against Del Rio. Should the Lady Eagles defeat Del Rio on Tuesday, they will have gone undefeated in District 29-6A in 2016.
The Lady Eagles exploded for six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead and never looked back in the game. The feisty Lady Bulldogs rallied with four runs in the top of the second to narrow the score 6-4, but the Lady Eagles added three runs in the bottom of the fourth and two runs in the sixth inning to capture the District Championship by the score of 11-4.
Leading the Lady Eagles offensive machine were Janessa Garza who batted 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs, Anna Aguado went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, Nina Flores hit 2 for 3 with 1 RBI, Amanda Appleton batted 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs, Sairah Gonzalez went 2 for 4, and Brooke Diaz went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI.
Four Lady Eagle senior players were honored in their last home game, including Amanda Appleton, Sairah Gonzalez, Melanie Mendoza, and Nina Flores.
The Lady Eagles are under the direction of Head Coach Oscar Ruiz since 2007.
The Lady Eagles will learn their first round opponent later this week and the dates and location of their Bi-District Championship series.
