April is National Financial Literacy Month and IBC Bank-Eagle Pass is celebrating by teaching students at Ray Darr Elementary the importance of being money smart and savings savvy with an event to be held on Thursday, April 28,2016 from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at 841 Memo Robinson Drive in Eagle Pass, Texas.
IBC Bank representatives, including IBC Bank-Eagle Pass President and Chief Executive Officer Hector Cerna, will be visiting Ray Darr Elementary third grade students in the Eagle Pass Independent School District to present them vital and important information concerning Financial Literacy, including the award-winning Money Buzz Program designed to promote financial literacy awareness among students at a young age.
Money Buzz was developed by IBC Bank under the direction of certified teachers and provides students fundamental lessons in financial literacy. IBC teaches the courses to elementary, middle and high school students, as well as local community groups. The lessons cover a range of financial concepts, and vary by age group, but include topics such as maintaining a check register, reconciling a bank statement, and calculating compounded interest earned. The program teaches people to become financial literate and savvy.
IBC Bank representatives will be covering various lessons on the importance of saving money.
National Financial Literacy Month is recognized in the United States every April in an effort to highlight the importance of financial literacy and teach Americans how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits.
In 2000, The National Endowment for Financial Education introduced Youth Financial Literacy Day. In 2003, the United States Senate designated April as Financial Literacy for Youth Month. In March 2004 the Senate passed Resolution 316 that officially recognized April as National Financial Literacy Month.
Ray Darr Elementary Principal Vale Moreno noted that his students are excited and looking forward to participating in the Money Buzz program and financial literacy lessons it offers. Ray Darr Elementary students participate year round in their IBC Bank-sponsored Money Buzz Program.
