The Eagle Pass City Council and Administration honored the City of Eagle Pass Public Safety Telecommunications Operators during their regular meeting held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016.
During the Citizens/Recognition agenda of the meeting, Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu officially named the week beginning on April 10 to 16, 2016 as Public Safety Telecommunications Week and presented the City’s 2016 Proclamation to representatives of the City of Eagle Pass Police Department Dispatchers.
“ These are the men and women who answer during the community’s times of crisis and distress. We know that you all don’t have an easy job as you at times have to deal with people that are going through major emergencies and have to keep your composure to assure that your professionalism is giving them the first aid that is required and is so very appreciated by the City of Eagle Pass and its residents,” said Mayor Cantu.
“I urge all citizens to join me in recognizing public safety telecommunicators for their focus on ensuring their well being throughout our great state,” said Cantu. “To each one of you , thank you for your service.” added Cantu.
Every year the month of April, the United States celebrates National Telecommunicators Week to recognize the very important role that 911 dispatchers play in public safety across the nation, including Eagle Pass and Maverick County.
Otherwise known as unsung heroes, 911 dispatchers are the first First Responders who collect the necessary information from 911 callers to assure that Police and Firefighter/ EMT departments respond appropriately with an understanding of what they will be dealing with once they arrive at the scene.
This information is crucial for public safety and all the people involved in such incidents.
April also serves as 911 Education Month, which focuses on teaching the proper use of 911 to children and adults in the community in the event of an emergency. The Eagle Pass Police Department 911 Dispatchers educate local school children on how to use 911 in case of an emergency at home or school.
The Eagle Pass Business Journal congratulates the City of Eagle Pass, Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, U. S. Border Patrol, and U.S. Department of Homeland Security 911 Dispatchers and outstanding public service to the community.
