United Medical Centers Chief Executive Officer William Worrell and Board President Jose De Luna traveled to Washington D.C. during the week of March 17, 2016 where they attended the annual conference of the National Association of Community Health Centers.
United Medical Centers is a federal Community Health Center serving the counties of Maverick, Val Verde, and Kinney with over 12 clinics in Eagle Pass, Del Rio, and Brackettville, Texas.
Worrell and De Luna attended important sessions on Improving Clinical Performance, Transforming Healthcare Delivery, National Healthcare Center Week, FTCA Program, and Outreach Program Expansion.
While in Washington, D.C., Worrell and De Luna joined other Southwest Texas Community Health Center Executives in meeting with U.S. House of Representative Will Hurd to discuss current issues facing Federally Qualified Health Centers. Among the items discussed were continued support from Congress on funding for the National Service Corps to assist as a recruiting resource for under served areas, support of two bills currently on the floor of the House and Senate that call for additional funding for FQHCs and National Health Center Week (August 7th-13th).
William Worrell stated that attending this important conference was crucial in assuring a better service and healthcare for UMC’s patients across the district.
“Community Health Centers are currently the largest provider of primary care in the U.S. They serve 24 million patients in 9,000 communities annually and help to save $24 billion every year through reducing inpatient and ER use.” said Worrell.
“United Medical Centers has been serving the communities of Maverick, Val Verde and Kinney Counties for over 43 years. UMC offers Primary Care, Pediatrics, Podiatry and OB/GYN services. They also offer ancillary services such as Radiology, Laboratory, Family Planning, and WIC. UMC is available to serve the community with dedicated quality care for those with Medicare, Medicaid, Private Insurance, and Self-pay.
