Eagle Passans contribute to Texas A&M-Kingsville Win Lone Star Conference Men’s Track & Field Championship
(Press Release) Christian Garcia and Ty Chisum, both Eagle Pass High School alumni, participated in the 2016 Lone Star Conference Men’s Track & Field Championship this past weekend. Together, the former Eagles, propelled Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) Javelinas’ Men’s Team win the 2016 Lone Star Conference Championship.
TAMUK tallied a total of 180 points to squeeze by Angelo State’s 173.5 points to earn the coveted 2016 Outdoor Men’s Lone Star Conference Track & Field Championship at Stephenville, Texas.
Both Garcia and Chisum both participated in two events each at the conference track and field meet.
Christian Garcia rocketed a gargantuan heave of 56’11” in the Shot Put to claim the Gold Medal (First Place) in the Lone Star Conference. In addition, Garcia followed that throw with a Discus toss of 155’, enough for even more points and a fourth place finish.
Christian Garcia also captured First Team All-Conference Honors for his extraordinary performance in the Shotput and Discus competitions.
Ty Chisum, a true Freshman at TAMUK, continued the good work and pulled in a crucial 8th place mark with a 22’11” Long Jump and a 10th place in his signature Triple Jump with a leap of 45’.
This marks the second Lone Star Track & Field Conference Championship for Garcia and the first for Chisum. Garcia has now qualified to participate at the NCAA Division II National Track & Field Championship Meet in Tampa Bay, Florida on May 20th.
Together, Garcia and Chisum, hauled in 16 points for the TAMUK TEAM effort. The narrow margin of victory over second place Angelo State only emphasizes the importance of both Garcia and Chisum’s performances and contributions to TAMUK’s garnering the prestigious 2016 Lone Star Conference Men’s Track & Field Championship. They both understand that every point counts.
The Eagle Pass Business Journal congratulates Christian Garcia and Ty Chisum on their performances in assisting Texas A&M University-Kingsville win the 2016 Lone Star Conference Men’s Track & Field Championship. Go Hawgs!
