Former Maverick County Commissioner Enrique “Gorilla” Ibarra passes away

Maverick Countians mourn the passing away of longtime Eagle Passan and former Maverick County Commissioner Enrique “Gorilla” Ibarra, age 79, on Sunday, May 22, 2016, succumbing to a battle with leukemia.
Ibarra was well-liked and respected in Eagle Pass and Maverick County, Texas, serving as a Maverick County Commissioner.
Nicknamed “Gorilla” for his outstanding and fierce football playing days at Eagle Pass High School, Ibarra was selected as an All-State First Team Football Player.
Ibarra’s funeral arrangements are being handled by Yeager-Barrera Mortuary of Eagle Pass, Texas. Public viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 12 Noon to 9 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:30 P.M. and additional public viewing on Wednesday, May 25th, from 9 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. A Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 25th, at 11 A.M. at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church and interment following the mass at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Cemetery in Eagle Pass.
Ibarra is survived by his wife, Maria Guadalupe M. Ibarra, two sons: Enrique Ibarra, Jr. and Javier Ibarra, two daughters: Rosana Alejandro and Janell Fernandez, nine grandchildren, one brother: Juan Ibarra, and four sisters: Estela Cook, Esperanza Alejandro, Sylvia Aguilar, and Maria Isabel Del Rio.
