Javier Mancha elected President of Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 Board of Directors

The Maverick County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 Board of Directors canvassed the election returns of its May 7, 2016 Board of Directors election, adopted an order declaring the results of the Board of Directors’ election, swore-in its three newly elected or re-elected Board of Directors, and elected its Board of Directors’ officers for 2016-2018 at its Tuesday, May 10, 2016 board meeting.
Elected or re-elected as new Board of Directors at the May 7, 2016 election were Gabriel Garcia with 89 votes, Yolanda Lopez Mauricio with 83 votes, and Juan Manuel Garcia, Jr. With 65 votes. Also receiving votes were candidates Juan Perez, Jr. with 61 votes, Guadalupe Cardona with 40 votes, and John Earl Smith with 33 votes. A total of 156 votes were cast in the May 7, 2016 election.
Sworn-in as new Board of Directors were Gabriel Garcia, Yolanda Lopez Mauricio, and Juan Manuel Garcia, Jr. by Texas Notary Public Cynthia Martinez.
Outgoing Board of Directors including President Travis Kelly and Secretary Marcelino Perez received a standing ovation and applause for their dedicated service to the MCWCID No. 1 Board of Directors. Kelly served 12 years on the Board while Perez served 14 years.
The MCWCID No. 1 Board of Directors proceeded to elect its officers for the 2016-2018 term. Board member Yolanda Lopez Mauricio motioned to elect Javier Mancha as Board President and Gabriel Garcia seconded the motion. Javier Mancha was elected MCWCID No. 1 Board President on a 4-1 vote with Yolanda Lopez Mauricio, Gabriel Garcia, Juan Manuel Garcia, Jr. and Javier Mancha in favor while Beyer Junfin voted against.
Newly elected and sworn-in Board member Juan Manuel Garcia, Jr. nominated Beyer Junfin as Vice-President but the motion failed due to a lack of a second.
Board member Yolanda Lopez Mauricio nominated Gabriel Garcia as Vice-President and Beyer Junfin seconded the motion. Gabriel Garcia was elected Vice-President on a unanimous vote 5-0.
Newly elected and sworn-in Board member Gabriel Garcia nominated Yolanda Lopez Mauricio as Secretary and Javier Mancha seconded the motion. Yolanda Lopez Mauricio was elected Secretary on a unanimous vote 5-0.
The MCWCID No. 1 Board of Directors also approved its Audit for Fiscal Year 2015 on a unanimous vote.
