A total of 2,089 Maverick County registered voters participated in the Democratic Party Primary Run-Off Election on May 24, 2016, electing Rudy Valdez to the Maverick County Constable Precinct 1 Democratic Party nomination, Mario A. Hernandez to the Constable Precinct 3-AB nomination, and Samuel “Sam” Chacon to the Constable Precinct 3-C nomination.
In the Precinct 1 Constable race, incumbent Rudy Valdez garnered 498 (71.1%) total votes compared to challenger Humberto Torralba, Jr.’s 202 votes (28.8%) to win the Democratic Party’s Constable Nomination for the November 8, 2016 General Election. Since there is no Republican Party candidate for the November 8th election, Valdez is more than likely to win re-election unless an independent candidate should register for the general election.
In the Precinct 3-AB Constable race, appointed Constable Mario A. Hernandez received 690 total votes (65.53%) compared to challenger Michael Torralba’s 363 votes (34.7%). Likewise, Hernandez wins the Democratic Party nomination for Constable for the November 8th general election. Hernandez has no Republican Party candidate opposing him in the November 8th election and should win the position unless an independent candidate should register for the November 8th election.
In the Precinct 3-C Constable race in Normandy and Quemado, Samuel “Sam” Chacon earned 131 total votes (59.82%) compared to challenger Abraham “Happy” Martinez’s 88 votes (40.18%). Chacon faces no Republican Party candidate in the November 8th general election and should win the position unless he draws an independent candidate should register to run in the November 8th election.
For the Railroad Commission of Texas Democratic Party Primary Run-Off election, Cody Garrett received 943 total votes (63.33%) compared to former Republican Grady Yarbrough’s 546 votes (36.67%) in Maverick County, Texas.
A dismal 7.2% of Maverick County registered voters (2,089) participated in the Democratic Party Primary Run-Off Election out of approximately 29,000 total registered voters.
