The Eagle Pass City Council discussed the potential hiring of a new City Manager during their monthly meeting held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 and approved to continue accepting applications for the position of City Manager and review the applications received to date before making a final list of interviewees for the position. The City Council also agreed to continue advertising for the City Manager position until it is filled.
Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu led the City Council into an extensive executive session in which they discussed agenda item No. 22 Executive Session, matters covered by Section 551.074 of Chapter 551, Texas Government Code–Discussion of Personnel –Evaluation of candidate resumes submitted for City Manager position and establishing procedure for formal selection and interview process; discussion and possible action in open session regarding the above and including but not limited to the selection of a City Manager; and/or authorize a city representative to commence negotiations regarding employment terms with the selected finalist; and/or authorize City to re-advertise City Manager position for an additional period of time as established by Council.
Once back in open session, Mayor Cantu stated that in regards to agenda item No, 22 that the city council had received a binder of candidates for the position of city manager and that they (council) would continue reviewing the applicants.
“We will meet to finalize a list of potential interviewees at the next scheduled council meeting. That will give us enough time to assess and review all of the candidates as well I would ask for authorization from the council to meet with the human resources department to allow the publications of the city manager position to remain advertised until the selection is finally complete.” said Cantu.
City Councilwoman Gloria Hernandez then made a motion for such action.
City Councilwoman Yolanda Ramon seconded the motion.
Cantu then asked if there was any further discussion on the motion, which there was none.
The motion was then put for a vote and was approved unanimously.
The Eagle Pass City Manager position is currently being filled by former Eagle Pass Waterworks Director Roberto Gonzalez on an Interim basis.
