Eagle Passan Christian Garcia named All-American Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS, La. (Track and Field-Press Release) United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honored 12 athletes from Texas A&M University-Kingsville as All-Americans due to their outstanding performances at the 2016 Outdoor NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
Christian Garcia of Eagle Pass, Texas was named to the Men’s Second-Team All-American Track and Field after placing 11th in the men’s shot put with a mark of 55′ 11″ (17.04m). Garcia went into the national championship ranked 15th in the nation for Division 2 Shot Put athletes. In a competition where the difference between 3rd and 15th places was less than 48 inches, Garcia out performed several competitors ranked significantly higher than him.
As a team, the Texas A & M University at Kingsville Javelinas came in second place overall in the NCAA Division II national track and field meet.
As an individual, Garcia comes off his best year at the collegiate level. Garcia participates in two varsity-level sports at Texas A & M University at Kingsville, including football and track and field.
Garcia was selected and nominated to several pre-season All American Football honors, and then following that with his stellar performance in the Shot Put Ring. Garcia is the 2016 Lone Star Conference Shot Put Champion. His throw at the Lone Star Conference track and field meet leaves him in the top four throws of all-time in Texas A&M at Kingsville history.
Garcia is returning in the fall of 2016 for his senior year to play football and track and field one more year for the fighting Texas A & M University at Kingsville Javelinas. Go Hawgs!
Garcia was accompanied by his family at the NCAA Division II National Track and Field Championship Meet in Bradenton, Florida, including his mother, Yolanda Garcia, grandmother, Dolores Olivas, and aunt and uncle, Roger and Claudia Olivas.
