Two Teens Dead in Shooting Incident in South Del Rio, TX

, The Del Rio News HeraldTwo young Del Rio men are dead, and police say they won’t yet reveal details of the shooting that led to those deaths, citing an ongoing investigation.
Anthony Rivas, 17, and Pedro Calvillo, 18, died of gunshot wounds to the head, Del Rio Police Department Chief Waylon Bullard confirmed Tuesday.
The DRPD issued a second press release about the Monday morning shooting just after noon Tuesday.
The release notes that DRPD officers were dispatched to 406 W. Martinez St. at 11:04 a.m. Monday “in reference to shots fired.”
“Upon arrival to the residence, DRPD officers located two individuals, each with a gunshot wound. The two individuals were transported to the Val Verde Regional Medical Center, however, the injuries proved to be fatal,” the press release notes.
Bullard said a firearm was recovered from the scene of the shooting, but he declined to say whether the weapon was a pistol or a long gun such as a rifle or a shotgun.
Bullard said Tuesday the bodies of Calvillo and Rivas were transported to the Webb County Medical Examiner’s Office in Laredo, where autopsies will be performed.
Val Verde County Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Antonio Faz ordered the autopsies.
Following the shooting, DRPD detectives began their investigation of the events leading to the fatal double shooting.
“The DRPD is currently investigating the circumstances of the deaths of Rivas and Calvillo. The DRPD does believe this to be an isolated incident and does not currently have any reason to believe that there is a danger posed to the community as a result of this incident,” the release states.
Bullard declined to make public any further details regarding the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation.
